The new government in Holland is being speculated to have online casinos as on it’s current agenda. The public is already choosing sides but the government has yet to give out a statement regarding the issue. The likelihood of the rumors being true is high. Peer pressure is powerful enough to motivate the new government to join the bandwagon as other European countries like Belgium, France and Italy have legalized online casino operations but with a few restrictions. Holland may have to take the same move but everything is speculation in the meantime.

Holland currently has negative and monopolistic policies on online casino gambling – and possibly, one of the government’s first few lines on the agenda is to change that. The Telegraaf, the newspaper that published the recent wave of speculation, reported that the particular market run by offshore online casinos is worth around € 270 million in taxation proceeds alone. The legalization of internet gambling might just be the perfect solution for Holland’s financial difficulties. The government has not given any confirmation to the rumors or even to the speculations of them considering what seems to be the common move of other European countries. People are also speculating that, considering Holland’s fondness for the monopoly, the country will probably follow the French model in constructing the legislation for internet gambling. The current (and controversial) French model works well in getting most operators to base themselves out of the country in question, and not somewhere else.

The Dutch Justice Ministry had proposed, through a study last August, that the state needs to start establishing a concrete legislation regarding internet gambling. It added that the licensure needs to be limited to online casino poker sites and not to other internet gambling activities, like internet bingo and sports booking.
